In Western culture, it can sometimes be seen as a sign of weakness for men to seek help with their emotional wellbeing, but it is actually a sign of strength and courage to know when to take positive action and seek help from family, friends or professionals.
The most recent statistics show that male suicides account for two thirds of all registered deaths by suicide. The current statistics are shocking.
Recently, I was moved by a BBC programme which documented the lives of eight men and their personal stories around dealing with poor mental health. Their individual stories are inspiring. More programmes like this would help to continue to raise awareness around coping with and overcoming mental health issues.
